About

The Sooke Saddle Club has both English and Western riders, some who actively show their horses, some who just enjoy riding the trails or just being in the company of other people’s horses.

The Sooke Saddle Club promotes having fun with horses while following safe practices.  We expect all riders under 19 as of the current year to wear approved equestrian helmets, and we encourage adults  to wear helmets as well.  As our shows are schooling shows, helmets are allowed for both English and Western riders.  We also encourage Western riders to wear helmets at any of our events.

Riders must have safe properly-maintained tack, and wear suitable riding boots.  Expensive show clothes and tack are not required for schooling shows.  However, clean well-groomed riders and their horses will present favorably for judges.

Volunteers are always needed for shows and events – announcer, entry secretary, ingate person, judge’s assistant, event timer, concession operator, and jump crew are some of the positions needed.

Audiences are welcome at SSC events.  Please do not bring dogs onto the grandstand as they may startle a horse in the Arena.

Additional horse-related clinics and social events occur during the year.  We occasionally plan group trail rides.  Our AGM/Christmas Potluck has been held near the end of November or early December at Cherry Lane Equine and we hope to resume now that COVID is less of an issue.  New executive is chosen at that time, and High Point awards are presented.  DUE TO COVID 19 RESTRICTIONS, THIS POTLUCK WAS MISSED IN 2020, 2021, 2023.  We joined with Cherry Lane Equine in January and presented our Members Hi-Point (Tara Grunwald) and Reserve Hi-Point (Sevanna Grunwald) with certificates and prizes.
